As Composer

Emily began songwriting and composing in junior high. Today, she has honed a unique compositional voice that has been described by listeners as complex, thoughtful, and powerful. Her compositional influences in the classical realm include Debussy, Stravinsky, Bach, and Hindemith, but her fascination with jazz and EDM contributes to her writing as well. Emily has written works for solo voice, piano, and chamber ensembles as well as choral works for children's, SSAA, and SATB choirs. Her work has been sung or played in church services, concerts, and recitals. She specializes in sacred chamber music and sacred art song.

An unabashed admirer of J.S. Bach, Emily aspires to bring spiritual and intellectual depth in all her works. She believes that music, whether vocal or instrumental, can be used to quiet the distracted mind and feed the souls of both listener and performer.

Emily has studied composition with Tom Mueller and Norman Weston. Recently, she completed and performed several settings of Christina Rossetti texts, and she continues to pursue sacred chamber music projects. She gladly accepts commissions of solo vocal, choral, or chamber works.
